By: A Correspondent

MARATHI poet Govinda Vinayak Karandikar will be awarded the Keshavsut award this year. Karandikar has already bagged Dnyanpeeth and Sahitya Academy awards. Sahitya Sanskruti Mandal President Madhu Karnik will give present him the award at a public function on November 7 at the Yashvantrao Chavan auditorium.

Karandikar, popularly known as Vinda, told MiD DAY that he was inspired by the Keshavsut's poem Ek Tutari Dya Maj Aanun as a young boy. "I am very happy to receive the award in his name.Keshavsut's works inspired me a lot," Vinda said, adding that his collection Swedganga bears great influence from Keshavsut's works.

Keshavsut was at the forefront of the new wave of Marathi poets who brought social consciousness to Marathi poetry, which was otherwise overburdened with praise of God in the 20th century. The award has been jointly instituted by Rajabhau Damle, grandson of Keshavsut and Ashay Sanskrutik.
