Ten people were killed and nine injured in an accident on the Pune-Satara highway, near the new tunnel near Jambhulwadi in the wee hours of Monday morning.
The injured have been taken to Sassoon Hospital for treatment. Three people are reported to be in critical condition.
According to hospital sources, the driver of the vehicle lost balance after a tyre burst and hit a trailer. The vehicle overturned and fell into a ravine.
The passengers were en route to Mumbai, from Satara when the mishap happened.

The police, fire brigade officials and ambulances reached the spot immediately and the bodies of the dead were removed and the injured were rushed to the hospital within a few hours.
The Fire Station Duty Officer of Sinhgad Fire Station told Mid-Day, " We receivedu00a0 a call at 5 am in the morning and we reached the spot and saw that the dead and injured were trapped in the Cruiser. We had to call a rescue van for help."
Haveli police station officials said, "The identification of the dead will take a while, as the relatives are coming in one by one." Initial reports said that the Cruiser was overloaded and details to establish the identity of the bodies is awaited.
