1000 Guineas is Smashing's next target: Shroff

The Holy Roman Emperoru00a0-- Exquisite filly Smashing won her first race on the Mahalaxmi track. However, the margin of victory, and some would say the manner of victory too, was not as convincing as was expected of Vijay Mallya's hot equine property.

"Smashing is highly strung," Pesi Shroff had said before the race in a paddock interview, "unlike my two earlier superstar fillies. Set Alight was willful, she would have her way and run her own race, while Jacqueline was calm and very well behaved." He also refused to speculate about her future moves.

"Smashing has won over six furlongs earlier and going an extra furlong today. Let her run her race today," Shroff added, "and if she does well, her next target would be another extra furlong, so the 1000 Guineas would be the logical next step."

The day's only sponsored event, Audelade Inaugural Million saw champion jockey from Mysore, B Sreekanth who has been retained by Dr MAM Ramaswamy, ride Karthik-trained Our Chieftain to a thrilling victory virtually in the last stride. The feature event, Jamsetjee Jeejeebhoy (VI Bart) Cup, was picked up by The Vinayak-trained Mountain Splendour (Dashrath Singh up).
