As many as 5,807 Pakistani nationals have been staying in Maharashtra as of December 31, 2012. While 60 of them have been staying illegally in the state, 107 are currently missing.
The state government has given directions to the commissioner for State Intelligence Department to trace illegal and missing Pakistani nationals and deport them back to their country of origin.
Home Minister RR Patil gave details of the Pakistani nationals through a written reply to the State Assembly recently. According to him, out of 5,807 Pakistani nationals, visas of 1,975 have been extended and 72 have been staying on short-term visa.

Besides this, applications of 2,144 Pakistani nationals have been pending at various levels with the Central and the State government. He added that the state had undertaken drives to flush out illegal and missing Pakistani nationals according to the directives given by the Centre but some of the cases have been pending in court.u00a0
