Another horrifying case of rape has surfaced in the city, when three persons were arrested in Nirmal Nagar, Bandra (East) yesterday, for kidnapping and raping a 16-year-old girl. Before the case was reported to the police, the survivor was allegedly raped on several occasions in the month of July.
The three arrested have been identified as Munshi Akhtar Qureshi (35), Vijay Kumar Rajbar (20) and a 15-year-old. The 15-year-old is a friend of the survivor, who had allegedly taken the girl to Qureshi’s house on July 2, when the victim was raped for the first time. “In the evening, the teen took the girl to Qureshi’s house, which is close by. After dropping the survivor at Qureshi’s house, she told the survivor that she was going to get another friend, but she actually left,” said an officer from the Nirmal Nagar police station.
According to the police, the survivor was then offered a cold drink, which made her unconscious. “She was then raped by Qureshi. In the morning, when she found herself naked, she asked Qureshi about what had happened. Qureshi narrated the whole incident, after which he raped her again,” added the officer. On July 5, Qureshi raped her for a third time.
On July 24, when the survivor arrived at the residence of Rajbar, a friend of Qureshi, she was raped by the duo. However, the whole incident came to light on Tuesday after the survivor complained of a stomach ache. Her parents took her to Bhabha Hospital. “When doctors found injuries to her private parts, they asked the girl about them. That is when they learnt that she had been raped repeatedly.” A complaint was registered at the Nirmal Nagar police station on Tuesday, and on the very same day, the accused were arrested. They have been remanded to police custody till September 17.
