A 20-year-old youth from Behram Baug has been booked under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO) for having misbehaved and passed lewd remarks at a 15-year-old girl. The accused, Maqbool Sheikh, has been booked by Oshiwara Police Station under sections 354(A1), 509, and 12 of the Indian Penal code (IPC).

The incident occurred at around 430 pm on 2nd September. A 15-year-old girl (unnamed) studying in the 9th grade and staying near Behram Baug, was walking her way back home from tuitions along with a friend who is of the same age. “As the duo reached Kajupada Junction, Sheikh, who worked at a nearby garage, saw the girl with a lusty look, and whistled at her,” said Senior police Inspector Subhash Khanvilkar, Oshiwara Police Station.

The teenager got annoyed and confronted the man, along with her friend, but instead of apologising, Sheikh retorted with “I love you, can you sleep with me?,” said Khanvilkar. “This further annoyed the girl(s) who took off their slippers and went to hit the him, but he managed to escape.”

However, Sheikh was nabbed by the authorities the very next day, and was booked under POCSO and other IPC sections. “He (Sheikh)has been in custody ever since and has not been released on bail,” said Khanvilkar.
