Nabbed trio had over 30 cases pending against them in different police stations, would lurk near Siddhivinayak temple and flee with the bikes parked there

In an action sequence straight our of a Bollywood masala film, the Khar police, along with the West Region Squad, successfully chased down and arrested three youngsters, all of them history-sheeters with over 30 cases pending against them for various crimes.

On December 22, the Khar police were manning a nakabandi at the Linking Road signal. Around 6.30 pm, cops spotted three youth on one bike.
"As soon as we saw them, they slowed down their bike. A few seconds later, they sped up, and broke through the nakabandi. We started chasing them on our bikes," said Assistant Police Inspector Navnath Sonavne of the Khar police station.
After tailing them for about two kilometres, the cops managed to nab and arrest the fleeing trio, identified as Mohammad Amir Ansari (20), Wasim Isakh Sheikh (21) and Mohammad Asif Sheikh (20).
The bike that they were riding turned out to be one that they had pinched from Siddhivinayak temple, a case for which had been registered in Dadar police station. For the last three months, the trio had made the area around Siddhivinayak temple their hunting grounds.
An officer from the Khar police station said that they would often lurk around the temple premises, seeking out bikers who parked their vehicles before they went to offer their prayers. Ansari and Wasim had good mechanical skills, which they would use to start the ignition of the bikes before they made off with them.
Sonavne said that the accused have more than 30 cases registered against them in police stations at Santacruz, Oshiwara, Malvani, Borivli, Dindoshi and others. The youngsters have been reported against for sundry crimes such as chain-snatching, pickpocketing and other petty thefts.
Cops expressed astonishment that the youngsters had become such accomplished criminals at such a young age. Mangesh Pote, senior police inspector of the Khar police station, said, "The arrested accused are very young. We were surprised by the number of crimes they have committed so early on in their lives.

We produced them at the Bandra Metropolitan Magistrate Court, which has remanded them in our custody. All the cases pending against them will be opened now. We will collate records of the crimes they committed from different police stations, and further investigations will be conducted."
