Gig by the beach
Allow us to paint a picture for you — waves crashing against a hillock, outdoor barbecues, campsite activities, sky lanterns floating in the night and a visit to the Murud Janjira fort. Explore the wild outskirts
Next Sunday morning, take a break from the regular destinations and head to Padale Gaon, a bird-watching paradise. Be sure to bump into black kites, storks, marsh harriers and sandpipers in this locale, relatively unknown to Mumbaikars. Go for a horror night out
NOV 25, 8 PM: If you want to get the heebie-jeebies, watch Manchha, an intriguing Gujarati play about a young lawyer who visits a late client’s haunted haveli in Lakhpat — a small village on the outskirts of Bhuj in Gujarat. Written by Sejal Ponda, and directed by Pritesh Sodha, Manchha adopts the ‘play within a play’ format and combines it with elements of horror. The play is shouldered mostly by two actors, Shivang Thakkar and Paresh Vora who enact different characters in the story.

Watch a love story unfold
NOV 25, 6.30 PM: Get an insight into the 42 years and 12 film-long relationship between legendary actress Liv Ullmann and master filmmaker Ingmar Bergman in Dheeraj Akolkar’s documentary, Liv and Ingmar: Painfully Connected. Portions of this sentimental film have been narrated by Ms Ullmann, and draw from Changing, her 1976 autobiography. It also includes excerpts from Bergman’s letters, read by Samuel Fröler. The film is essentially a homage to two of the greatest artistes of our time.

Measure | Decipher
At his first solo exhibition, Pratap Morey examines the city he has lived and worked in —Mumbai. Morey uses a combination of digital photographic images, architectural drawings and engravings in his intricate paper-works. Each work delves into the construction, redevelopment and displacement that we see around us in maximum city. So, whether it’s corrugated sheets, walls pasted with plastic or water pipelines, all of these are reincarnated in paper and drawings with Morey. While this should be an absolute delight for architects and urban thinkers, Morey’s unusual cityscapes will surely resonate with every city-dweller.

Hypnolines by Fiorenzo Senese
Explaining could be exploiting
Can travelling every day on the Western Railway line to Vasai inspire art? The answer from Yogesh Barve, is yes. In his new audiovisual installation, the saltpans and apartments of Vasai become the subject of his solo debut, which has 600 videos. All the video is low-tech captured and displayed by a varied list of cheap mobile phones and borrowed televisions.

India Arts Festival
Beginning this Thursday is the Mumbai edition of the arts extravaganza, where you can enjoy a range of artworks by 500 Indian and international artists, all under one roof.
