Proving physical prowess with a new high, a team of 260 army men will cycle from the city to the town of Saugor in Madhya Pradesh, on November 26. The soldiers from the Mahar Regiment will cycle to their Regimental Center in Saugor, traversing 1,200 km to attend the regiment's twelfth re-union ceremony. Saugor is located 180 kms east from the capital city of Bhopal. The Mahar Regiment soldiers from the Aundh Military Station have been undergoing intense training sessions since the past seven months for the gruelling ride. They will be provided with specialised cycles from BSA Hercules.

Strict diet
An officer requesting anonymity said, "We train for about five hours everyday and follow a strict diet regimen to help us complete our journey within the stipulated time." The officer added that they also wish to inspire the youth to join the armed forces, since the military has a rich tradition of promoting and holding major sports events. The ceremony that would be flagged off at 9 am is scheduled to reach the destination by December 8 in the evening.

Talking about the ceremony, another officer said that it is a proud moment for each and every soldier to participate in the grand event at Saugor where Mahar Regiment soldiers from other parts of the country would also be present. There will be adventure sports and other competitions conducted between various units of the regiments who will arrive from other parts of the country.u00a0

Overnight stops
Reportedly, the team will take overnight pit stops at Ahmednagar, Aurangabad and Nagpur and will be
put up in various schools, colleges and other institutions that have a tie-up with the army. Saurabh Jalgaonkar, marketing manager from BSA Hercules, said that the 'ACT 110' bicycle model has already been finalised for the army. The cycle has three gears in the front and six in the back. The body is made with a strong composite alloy to withstand off road cycling, he added.
