Driving gives an adrenaline rush to many, but for 28-year-old Abhishek Chopra, the rush comes from being the first to to drive on new projects in Mumbai, such as flyovers and roads. Chopra, who aims to register his feat in the Limca Book of Records, wants to be the first common man to drive on newly inaugurated flyovers in the city. Chopra will be the first in line today when the bridge will be thrown open to public.

A singer by profession, Chopra has already claimed his five minutes of fame by being the first one to drive on the JJ Flyover way back in 2002. “I was first among the motorists to ride on the JJ flyover. This was when bikes were allowed on the flyover,” Chopra said.

Seven years later, he repeated his accomplishment by being the first one to drive on the engineering marvel, the Bandra-Worli Sea Link. “I reached the entrance of the Sea Link at around 4.30 in the morning and parked my car there in order to get in first. Doing it on the JJ Flyover had felt good, so why not go again, I thought. This is when my friend gave me the idea to make a record attempt out of it,” Chopra added.

Records beckon
Soon, Chopra consulted the people behind the Limca Book of Records to see if such a record exists. He was told that no such record existed, and so decided to work his way towards one.

So far, he has been the first to drive on five flyovers including, JJ flyover, Lalbaug flyover, Bandra Worli Sea Link, Maheshwari Udyan flyover and more recently the Milan subway flyover. When asked about his next pit stop, he said, “I am not going to stop at six, I will have to drive over quite a few flyovers to make it unbeatable.”

Flyovers crossed so far
JJ flyover: May 3, 2002
Bandra-Worli Sea Link: July 1, 2009
Lalbaug flyover: June 6, 2010
