London: Former alternative rock band 3 Doors Down lead guitarist, Matt Roberts has passed away at the age of 38. His father, Darrell Roberts claimed that he was woken up by police on Saturday morning with the news of his son's demise, reported Digital Spy.

"I was wakened at 8:50 this morning by some detectives beating on my door. It's always scary as a parent, they were in suits and that's when they told me. They asked me if Matt Roberts was your son, I said yes, and they said, 'We have bad news to tell you, Matt deceased last night'," Darrell said.

Matt was expected to perform at a charity event in Wisconsin later that night where his father was also supposed to join him. Darrell revealed his son had struggled with anxiety and an addiction to prescription medication since his time with 3 Doors Down.

A cause of his death has yet to be confirmed, with police noting that they had received a call in which they were informed that a man was "either asleep or passed out in the hallway of his hotel. Back in 2012, Matt left 3 Doors Down due to health issues.

He was an original member of the band along with Brad Arnold (vocals/drums) and bassist Todd Harrell, who got fired in 2013 after being charged with vehicular homicide. These three formed the group in 1996. The band rose to international fame with their first single, 'Kryptonite'.
