A suicide bomber blew himself up near the United States consulate in Jeddah yesterday. Two security officers were hurt. A local newspaper said security officers sealed off the area after “a person blew himself up in a car in front of the US consulate.” There was no immediate word on who was responsible. It happened just before the dawn prayers.

A suicide bomber blew himself up outside a Shiite mosque in Qatif, without causing any other injuries. “Suicide bomber for sure. I can see the body torn apart,” said a witness in the Shiite-populated city of Qatif. Pictures on social media showed a small fire burning in the street, severed limbs and what appeared to be a severed head.
Another suicide blast hit security headquarters at Masjid-e-Nabvi in Medina shortly after Iftar. According to reports, suicide bomber detonated a device near the security headquarters of the Prophet’s Mosque in Medina, the second-holiest site in Islam. Footage on al-Arabiya channel showed a blazing vehicle. Four people were reported dead.
