Remanded to police custody till May 15
Four members of the Republican Panthers of India, involved in ransacking professor Suhas Palshikar’s office at the University of Pune (UoP) on Saturday, have been sent to police custody till May 15.
The incident was sparked off by the appearance of a cartoon of Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar in school textbooks a day after Palshikar, who is also an NCERT advisor, resigned as the matter picked up steam.

Those arrested have been identified as Rahul Khandare (25), a resident of Haveli, Subhash Telgute (25), a resident of Buldhana, Balaji Gaikwad (28) a resident of Manjari in Hadapsar and Sagar Gaikwad (23), a resident of Kinai in Haveli taluka.
Police Sub-Inspector S D Ghanwat of Chatushringi police station produced the suspects in a Shivajinagar court yesterday afternoon.
Assistant public prosecutor A K Pacharne, while arguing for police custody of the suspects, told the court that Khandare and Telgute were arrested by Marine Drive police in Mumbai on December 7 last year for trying to illegally enter the chief minister’s office over the Indu Mill controversy.
The suspects entered Palshikar’s office on the first floor of Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Bhavan on the UoP campus, broke several windowpanes, two cupboards and other furniture and also flung blue color (indigo) powder all over the area.u00a0
