A brave little boy who lost three limbs to meningitis has defied the tragedy and taken up ballet.

Harvey Phillips (4) nearly died at nine months as the brain bug ravaged his body. Doctors had to amputate his lower legs, right arm and the fingers on his left hand.

Harvey's devastated mum Lisa feared his disability would mean he would never be able to play with friends or enjoy music and dance.

He was so determined to take part that he took to the dance floor without his prosthetic limbs.

Now he is able to run, jump and twirl using custom-made plastic caps to protect his leg stumps.

The ballet classes have improved his posture and helped him walk.

Now he even plays football in the local park at Louth, Lincolnshire.

Divorced Lisa said,u00a0 "Harvey is strong headed. If he wants to do something, he does it... He wants to try everything. He doesn't understand the meaning of the word 'No'.

"He's in his element when he's being active and dancing. I'm so proud."

Ballet teacher Nicky Wright is amazed at Harvey's progress since starting the class last November. She said, "He smiles continuously."
