Family of Mulund resident who was run over by a municipality dumper last month is preparing to sue the civic body
More than a month has passed since 65-year-old Padma Kokal was run over by a speeding municipality dumper truck. But time is clearly not the healer, for the Mulund resident is still racked by the debilitating pain from the grievous injuries sustained in the accident.

On January 6, MiD DAY had reported how the BMC dumper ran over Kokal's right leg when it was taking a sharp turn ('Senior citizen goes to buy milk, gets hit by dumper'). She had ventured out to buy milk for the day.
After the incident, Kokal underwent a couple of surgeries, and on Tuesday she also underwent a skin grafting procedure. "She is not able to stand up without support or even move of her own accord. According to medical reports, it will take at least two more months for her to recover," said Lakshmi Kokal, a relative of the victim. In its crusade to wrest justice for Kokal, her family is filing a complaint under the Motor Accident Claim Tribunal (MACT) against the BMC. "The process of filing the complaint is under way, and all the necessary papers and documents are ready. We are only waiting for the certified copy of the FIR and panchnama from the police," said advocate BH Trivedi, who is representing the family.
The hospital and other medical bills are piling up each day. The family also claimed that no representative from the BMC has bothered to enquire about her well-being.
"It is becoming increasingly difficult to clear the hospital bills, along with the expenses for medicines. We are a middle-class family, and to arrange for such a huge sum within such a short period of time is tough. It would be of great help to us if the hospital offered a concession of some sort," said Narayan Kokal, another relative.
