Fancy yourself to be a palette thrill-seeker? Melissa D'Costa and Aviva Dharmaraj pick signature treats that you can get nowhere else in the city

Mixed Fruit Cream

At Lala Lajpatrai Road, Haji Ali Circle
Call 23512553
Price Rs 100

Apple, chikoo, banana, strawberry, black grapes and a generous sprinkling of almonds and pistachios are what go into this unusual dessert. They claim it's the only place where you can get the stuff, and we have a sneaking suspicion we might know why. The indistinctiveness of this sweet treat (can grapes go well with cream?) is made up for by the trademark silkiness of the cream that's made in-house. We suggest you stick with their superlative Sitaphal, Mango or Strawberry Cream instead.

Sabudana Mushroom Pizza
At Diva Maharashtracha, near Hinduja Hospital, Shivaji Park, Mahim.
Call 24454433
Price Rs 199, plus taxes for eight slices

This dish is a fusion of two popular cuisines: Maharashtrian and Italian. Especially created for kids and the youth who are constantly on the lookout for unusual tastes and textures: the pizza base is made of sabudana (sago), and has mushrooms, onions and peppers as toppings over tomato sauce. Served fried or baked and with or without cheese, the sauteed veggies provide an extra crunch.

Seasonal Kulfi with Tandoori Fruits
At Bonobo, Kenilworth Mall Phase 2, 2nd Floor, off Linking Road, Bandra (W).
Call 26055050
Price Rs 200, plus taxes

The guys at Bonobo decided to give the traditional calorie-laden Indian dessert a healthy twist. The end result is a combination of textures and flavours where hot meets cold, and the taste of fresh fruits blends with the smokiness of the tandoor. The result? Kulfi most unusual.

From the Harbour Since 1933
At Harbour Bar, The Taj Mahal Palace & Tower, Colaba.
Call 66653366
Price Rs 400, plus taxes

One of the oldest cocktails bars in the city, The Harbour Bar can stake claim to serving a classic concoction that has been on their menu since 1933. Named From the Harbour Since 1933, the cocktail was especially created for two Americans who dropped by to celebrate the end of the prohibition of alcohol in America. Tropical fruit flavours, Chatreuse, fresh fruits, Tanqueray Tan and Peach Liquor go into this signature cocktail.

Wasabi Creme Brulee
At Wasabi by Morimoto, The Taj Mahal Palace & Tower, Colaba.
Call: 66653366
Price Rs 545, plus taxes

Especially created by Chef Hemant Oberoi for Wasabi's dessert selection, the Wasabi Creme Brulee is an exotic custard served with a sprinkling of the Japanese horseraddish. A sweet
concoction, with a pungent flavour.

Mutton Berry Pulao
At 11, Wakefield House, Strott Road, 16, Fort.
Call 22615264
Price Rs 300 (mutton), Rs 200 (chicken), Rs 150 (vegetarian)

Introduced in 1982 by proprietor Boman Kohinoor's late wife, Bachan, who learnt how to make the dish during her frequent trips to Iran, the Berry Pulao comes laced with nostalgia. The fragrant pulao is made using the sweet-sour zereshk berries imported all the way from the fabled country and is served with a generous garnish of kebabs, fried cashews and onions. This is also the only place in the country where you can get the stuff.

Green Chilli Ice cream
At Bachelor's, Chowpatty Sea Face
Call 23681408
Price Rs 30 (single scoop); Rs 55 (double scoop)

Bachelor's Green Chilli Ice cream has been on the menu for a while: some claim 1984, others 2000, but the experience is still a novel one. Fancy ice cream with a dash of zing? Try this. The vibrant, fiery green of the chillies comes wrapped in soothing swirls of creamy vanilla ice cream. The lingering taste of the chillies creates a lasting impression.
