New Delhi: A total of 70 children being brought in a train from Bihar were rescued from the Old Delhi Railway Station Wednesday while they were changing to another train for Punjab, police said.

The children were being taken in a train from Raxaul in Bihar to Punjab via Delhi. They were to board a train for Punjab from Delhi.

A police team had boarded the train at Ghaziabad in Uttar Pradesh and rescued the children while they were being shifted to the other train at the Old Delhi railway station.

"The children aged between 8-16 were rescued as they were brought to Delhi to be taken to Punjab on the pretext of being given jobs," a police official said.

The operation was carried out jointly by the Delhi police and Bachpan Bachao Andolan, an NGO working for the rights of children and to end human trafficking.
