After luring an eight-year-old boy with chocolate, a 35-year-old, contract laborer allegedly sodomised the former and later strangulated him to death. The heinous crime occurred at a construction site in Kadachiwadi in Chakan on Wednesday night. The Chakan police have arrested the person and identified him as Khadak Singh Panchal, who hails from Hamidpur in Uttar Pradesh.

A complaint was registered by the deceased’s father who works as a construction labourer at the site. “Panchal, who also works as a construction labourer, has been at the site for one and half years and used to stay in the same premises alone. In the evening, after completing his work, he used to call kids who stay with their parents in the labour camps and used to give them chocolates and other eatables,” said police inspector Sushil Kadam of Chakan police station. He said that on Wednesday evening, Panchal had called the kids including the deceased as usual and gave them chocolates and stayed with them for some time. After that everybody except the deceased kid left for home.
“When their kid did not come home till 10 pm, the parents got worried and started searching for him and even consulted Singh with whom the kid was last spotted. He, however, said that the deceased took chocolates and left for home,” said Kadam.
Meanwhile, the parents and other neighbours went to the police station and lodged a complaint. “At around 1.30 am on Thursday, the child was found dead in the under construction building with his clothes taken off and blood coming from his mouth,” Kadam said. The child was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he was declared dead. “Meanwhile, the neighbours and parents pointed fingers at Panchal. When we reached his room, it was locked from outside. We got a tip-off that he had gone to Pune Railway Station,” the inspector added. At around 5 am, a team of Chakan police traced him at Pune Railway Station and arrested him from there.
Kadam said that the accused has confessed to the crime and also admitted he had sodomized him before killing him. “During the act, the kid started shouting and crying and tried to stop him. Panchal strangulated him to death and dumped his body in the same building when nobody was around. The deceased child’s parents hail from Nevasa in Ahmednagar district and have been working in the Chakan area for 15 years.
The accused has been arrested under section 302 (murder) 377 (unnatural sex) and relevant sections of Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, 2012 and will be produced before the court on Friday.u00a0
