After being acquitted of charges in the 1993 Mumbai blasts, accused was caught after snatching the necklace of a former top cop's daughter
The Bhoiwada police have arrested a man implicated in the 1993 bombings in a chain snatching case. According to police, the accused had fled with the chain of the retd. Assistant Commissioner of Police’s daughter from Hindmata on June 5. The victim had registered a complaint with the Bhoiwada police.

The police have arrested Saleem Abu Sama Khan alias Saleem Ambavade who was arrested in the 1993 bomb blast case when 13 blasts had rocked the city, killing about 250 people and injuring 700.
Ambavade was later acquitted of his charges, but his brother Akbar Khan Abu Sama alias Akbar Lala, who was accused of landing the RDX and some sophisticated weapons at Dighi beach in Raigad district for the 1993 blast was convicted. Abu Sama had been out on bail when he was shot dead by Chhota Rajan’s gang members in 2001. “On June 5, Ambavade snatched the chains of Bhavana Chorge who is the daughter of retired ACP Sunil Pathnakar from Hindmata area,” said a police officer from Bhoiwada police station.
When the FIR was registered, the police started a search for the accused and on investigation, learnt that it was the work of Ambavade.
“Ambavade and his brother were both working for underworld don Dawood Ibrahim at one time. After his brother’s death, Ambavade got into petty crimes,” added the police officer. Ambavade has confessed to the crime and he has also admitted to committing other robberies in south Mumbai. The V P Road police have also applied to the court for the custody of Ambavade.
“Ambavade has a unique modus operandi. He snatches gold chains from men and is under the influence of drugs most of the time,” said the police officer.u00a0
