Hyderabad: A local court today convicted a youth and sentenced him to 10 years' rigorous imprisonment in a 2013 case of kidnap and gang rape of a minor girl, in which three other accused are juveniles.

The court also imposed a fine of Rs 1,000 on the convict, Mohd Salman, an auto-rickshaw driver, according to a release from city police. The 14-year-old girl was abducted on December 14, 2013 by four youths, three of them minors, who sexually assaulted her from December 14, 2013 to December 17, 2013 at two different places in the city, police said.

A complaint was lodged on December 15, 2013 by the victim's parents. Based on the complaint, a case was registered under relevant sections of IPC, the Criminal Amendment Act, 2013 (also known as Nirbhaya Act) and the Protection of Children from Sexual offences Act.

Salman was arrested on December 18, 2013, while the three boys were apprehended the next day. This was the first case registered under the Nirbhaya Act, enacted after the December 2012 Delhi gang rape of a para-medic student, in Hyderabad city, the release said. The trial against the minors is going on before the Juvenile Justice Board.
