Santosh Pandey (25) who was riding his motorcycle from Makrani Pada area outside Satellite towers at Jogeshwari
east hardly knew he would not return back home.

A tree fell on him on Wednesday and he was immediately rushed to Balasaheb Thackeray Trauma Care at Jogeshwari (east), where he was declared dead on arrival.

According to some eyewitnesses, who informed the police, that the man was standing under the tree and it hit Santosh on his head. The impact on the head left him seriously injured.

Pandey was a resident of the Shankarwadi area and used to work at a commercial gala in Jogehwari.

The BMC, however, was of the opinion that their routine work of trimming trees was done. One of the official on request of anonymity, said, "We had trimmed the trees in our area and were trimmed them regularly whenever necessary. However, it was an unfortunate accident. If the family makes an application, the BMC could give them compensation as per policy."

In a similar incident last week, a mother-son died in Thane after a tree collapsed on them.
