The day of a popular show may not be the perfect one to visit The Fat Chef, a continental restaurant located at Jagriti if you are headed there for the food, but we did anyway and don't have much to complain besides the half hour long wait for a table. It is in fact nice to end the day with a sumptuous and fulfilling meal after a thought provoking play. The ambience is mostly functional with an outdoor and an indoor section and a dessert bay at the entrance.

Lemon Grilled Chicken

A good selection of wine is also part of the aforementioned bay. We decided to settle for just the food and gave the wine a pass. We asked for Lime Ginger Iced Tea (R 90) instead and were quite pleased with our choice. Freshly prepared the drink had a tangy lemon flavour and was spiced mildly with ginger. We decided to go simple on the starters and ordered for some Hummus (R 190). This came as a bowlful alongwith pita bread and drizzled with generous amounts of olive oil. There was also a bowl of freshly cut salad for company. We mopped the combination up in no time.

For the mains we opted for Lemon Grilled Chicken (Ru00a0 280) and Vegetable Cannelloni with pesto (R 240). While the cannelloni was nothing to write home about with sparse stuffing and coriander for garnish, the LemonGrilled Chicken was what really won us over.

Chicken breasts grilled to perfection and marinated in lots of lemon juice gave it the tender and tangy effect on our tongues. Herbed mashed potatoes and grilled tomatoes formed the sides and we were more than happy with the light and invigorating preparation. The service was another thing that left us impressed. Despite the rush after the play, we were served our mains quite promptly in fifteen minutes of having ordered them. The ambience was abuzz with a flurry of people discussing the play over a fine dining setting (not something you see to often).

The dampener though came in the form of dessert which we were looking forward to. We ordered for a New York Cheesecake (R 250) and what came was a rather unappetizing version of it. Topped with blueberries, the cream cheese was a little too sour and the crust not as crumbly as we expected it to be.
