A five-day festival to be held in the city will screen short films made by acclaimed actor-director Raja Paranjape with the aim of introducing youngsters to the geniusa

The Raja Paranjape Festival organised over the weekend by the Raja Paranjape Prathishthan hopes to introduce people to the genius of this legendary director through films, audio-visual presentations and workshops.
Musician Kaushal Inamdar, director Satish Rajwade, actor Shreyas Talpade and actor Mukta Barve will be given the Tarunai Sanman Award at the festival.
Ten films directed by the filmmaker will be screened including Lakhachi Gosht, Ganget Ghoda Nhyayla, Pudhcha Paul, Suwasinee, Krushnamai and Pedgaonche Shahane. Some short films based on Paranjape's life will also be shown at the festival.
Paranjape's granddaughter, Archana Rane, who is also the president of the Prathishthan, says that the workshop titled 'Understanding Raja Paranjape' is being held to help people understand Paranjape's contribution to Indian cinema.
The festival has been organised in association with Aashay Film Club and the National Film Archive of India (NFAI). According to Virendra Chitrav, secretary, Paranjape Prathishthan, the enormous response they received from the audience last year, encouraged them to organise the festival again. "This festival is for the youth as Raja Paranjape was a strong believer in the ability and talent among youngsters. He was one of the architects of the Indian cinema," says Chitrav.
