Ehsaas, an exhibition organised by a local NGO, showcases items made by children with special needs from 29 city schools

Students from Umang School in Kandivli learn to make
handicrafts to improve their motor skills. Some of their
products will be available at the exhibition

Products at the exhibition include items like bags, books, chocolates, jewellery, candles and cards. Prices start at as less as Rs 5 for a handmade envelope. The exhibition is Non Governmental Organisation Jagrut's first attempt to bring about awareness for the cause of differently-abled children across the city.

Founded by Narendra Hirani in 2009, the NGO has previously conducted campaigns such as blood donation drives,u00a0cancer-detection camps for women, besides drives to 'Save Water' and 'Ban Plastic Bags'.

Anil Abhyankar, event co-ordinator for this exhibition, says they plan to make Ehsaas an annual affair. "In Mumbai, people pity these children but don't know anything about their conditions," he says. For the exhibition, the NGO approached schools that teach physically-challenged, visually or hearing-impaired and differently-abled children in the city.

In these schools, the children are encouraged to express themselves through art, like making handicrafts. These have been showcased at the exhibition.u00a0u00a0"The exhibition aims at showcasing the children's talents and we hope to shed some light on the lack of opportunities for them, with regards to further schooling and work," says Abhyankar.

The participating schools include ADAPT (Able Disabled All People Together), Hellen Keller Institute for the Blind, Umang School, Dilkhush Special School and Fellowship of Physically Handicapped. The funds generated from the exhibition will go to the participating schools to help them improve their courses.
