While women MPs appear set to change the look of India's parliament, a woman artist is working hard to add some more colour to the picture. Jyothi Raj and her team have been striving hard for the last few months to restore as many as 58 paintings belonging to various famous artists of the country, back to their original glory.
The mural and panel paintings are undergoing restoration after 15 years.
Raj, who is an artist cum conservator, said: "This work is being carried out as part of the conservation process. We use the same organic colours to try to retain the originality of the paintings. We never change the work of art in any way and only retouch it and ensure that the damages are filled and covered up before applying protective coating."
The team of four has been working since September, under the supervision of IK Bhatnagar of the National Museum. "We have finished as many 45 paintings and will be done with the rest by the end of the month," said Raj.
