Denied a salary hike, Delhi MLAs demand housing facility

Our politicians always have their priorities right. Even as the Centre is casting aspersions on the salary hike proposed by the city government for MLAs, the Congress Legislative Party on Tuesday resolved that the legislators be provided with housing facility and guards apart from other provisions.

In the CLP meeting that took place on Tuesday afternoon,u00a0 apart from other issues this matter too came up for discussion.

"Almost in every state, MLAs are provided with lodging facility in the state capital. Why should Delhi be an exception," said a senior Congress functionary.

Money mantra

The hike was proposed in August by the government after discussions with the opposition, BJP. The city government had proposed a hike in the range of 150 to 200 per cent for the legislators. Justifying the proposal, government said salary and allowances of MLAs have not been reviewed after the significant increase in the salaries of employees following recommendations of the Sixth Pay Commission.
