Makers of the Sanjay Dutt biopic had reportedly approached Aamir Khan to essay the role of his father — late actor-politician Sunil Dutt. However, now we hear, the star has passed up the offer.

An insider says, "Aamir had liked Sr Dutt's character sketch in the film and shown interest in playing the role, but changed his mind later."

Following this setback, the producers have started a fresh hunt for another actor who can do justice to the role.

So far, only Ranbir Kapoor, who will play Sanjay, has been finalised for the film being co-produced by Rajkumar Hirani. As per recent reports, Sonam Kapoor has been approached for the project. It will be interesting to see Sonam and Ranbir share screen space after their 2007 debut, 'Saawariya'.

The biopic was earlier scheduled to go on floors in October, but has now been pushed back to early 2017. There are also rumours about the biopic being shelved.

Bollywood actor Ranbir Kapoor, who essays Sanjay Dutt's character in his biopic, has not got any inputs or training from the latter.
