Aamir Khan upset over Newton's selection for Oscars?
It's obvious that if any jury were to pick only one film as the best in a year - from a choice of over a thousand theatrical releases in India - the rest are going to be annoyed
It's obvious that if any jury were to pick only one film as the best in a year - from a choice of over a thousand theatrical releases in India - the rest are going to be annoyed. So it doesn't surprise us to hear that among those upset with Newton's nomination as India's official entry to the Oscars, are the makers of the Aamir Khan-starrer Dangal and Adil Hussain-starrer Mukti Bhawan (produced by the director Shubhashish Bhutiani's dad, Sanjay).

Given Dangal's global run, they would've obviously hoped for a fine Oscar campaign. Aamir's Lagaan had been nominated for the Academy Award in 2001. As for Mukti Bhawan, the filmmakers had made a pitch with the Film Federation of India — the producers' body that decides on the entry. Of course there is no perfect choice, but we feel Newton's as good as it gets.
