While the case remains a mystery, an RTI reply has revealed that the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has spent over one lakh rupees in conducting brain mapping and narco-analysis tests of the Talwar couple in connection with the 2008 Aarushi-Hemraj murder case.

"A total of Rs 1,32,692 was spent by the investigating agency as test fees for carrying out brain mapping test and narco analysis test of Dr Nupur Talwar and Dr Rajesh Talwar," Ajay Maratha said. Maratha, a Mumbai-resident had filed an RTI query seeking information related to the amount of expenditure undergone by the CBI in getting the two tests conducted in the Gandhinagar forensic science laboratory.

"The test produced no concrete result which could help the CBI in cracking the murder mystery. The CBI had to pay this amount as it was getting the test done from another state laboratory. Had this facility been functional in the CFSL Delhi lab this expenditure could have been avoided," Maratha said.

"The per subject fees for brain mapping test was received Rs 10,000 plus 12.36 per cent of service tax and the per subject fees for narco-analysis test is Rs 50,000 plus 10.30 per cent of service tax which was received in the form of demand draft by the investigating agency for conducting the brain mapping test and narco test of Dr Nupur Talwar and Dr Rajesh Talwar," the reply read.

Rajesh and Nupur underwent the brain mapping test in February 2009, while the narco-analysis tests were conducted in February 2010.

Still a mystery
The case remains unresolved even after three years have passed since 14-year-old Aarushi Talwar, daughter of Rajesh and Nupur Talwar, and their domestic help, Hemraj were found brutally murdered in the Talwars' flat in Noida.
