In the English summer of 1959, Baig, who studied at Oxford University, became the first Indian batsman to score a Test debut hundred abroad during the fourth Test at Manchester. His 112 in India’s second innings also made him the youngest Indian (20 years, 131 days) century-maker in Tests.

In the brochure published for the second edition of Cricketing Heritage Auction, Baig writes: “Of all my India blazers, this England 1959 one was closest to my heart not only because, unlike any other India blazer, this one was specially stitched in London, but also because it was presented to me by the manager of the team Fatehsinghrao Gaekwad in the Long Room at Lord’s upon my induction in the Indian team resulting from an injury to their star batsman Vijay Manjrekar, just prior to the 4th Test of the series at Old Trafford — a match in which I got my debut century.” According to the brochure, the price range of the blazer is Rs 300,000 to 450,000.

Also on offer (Rs 50,000 to 75,000) is a stump that Anil Kumble broke when he clean bowled West Indies’ Curtly Ambrose for nought in the 1993 Hero Cup final at Kolkata. Ambrose was the last man to be dismissed in Kumble’s match-clinching 6 for 12 spell.
