Abducted Delhi toddler rescued from South Mumbai

Abducted Delhi toddler rescued from South Mumbai

A three-year-old girl, who was kidnapped from outside Gurudwara Bangla Sahib in New Delhi last month, was rescued from Fort area in south Mumbai on Friday.


While the toddler has been sent to the Dongri remand home till officials from Parliament Street police station in New Delhi come to take her back, the MRA Marg police station officials have arrested a trio for abducting her.


The accused were identified as Suman Patel (45), Ginni Pohar (20) and Kajal Pohar (19). Police officials from New Delhi are expected to arrive in the city by evening today.


According to the MRA Marg police, they received a call from the control room on Friday morning informing them about a woman roaming in the area with a three-year-old.

A team of police officials reached the spot and took Patel in custody. During initial questioning, she told cops that her sister’s son Ginni and his wife Kajal gave her the child. The duo was summoned to the police station from their Goregaon residence.

The pick up
Officials said that the couple had visited the gurudwara in the last week of July. When they came out after attending langar, they spotted the weeping toddler. Without asking around for her parents or guardians, the duo brought her to Mumbai.

Senior inspector Ashok Jagdale from MRA Marg police station said, “The accused said they brought the girl as she was crying outside the gurudwara, and that they had no ill intentions. The girl’s parents were attending langar when the incident occurred. They immediately registered a case of kidnapping at the Parliament Street police station.”

He added that the family hails from Gaziabad, Uttar Pradesh. “We registered a case against the three and arrested them for kidnapping. We also sent the girl’s photo to Delhi police, which matched. They will be coming to the city to take custody of the child and the accused.”
