Rekha is reluctant to accept Lifetime Achievement Award by the 46th Marathi Film Awards; says she's still active and acting

Veteran actress Rekha's convulsion on being selected for recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award by the 46th Marathi Film Awards committee has forced the organisers to rename the honour.

It's believed that Rekha had written a letter to the state government expressing her reluctance to accept the award. In the letter, she has supposedly said that she's still active and acting.

Speaking to MiD DAY, State Cultural Minister Harshwardhan Patil said, "Rekhaji had readily agreed to accept the Lifetime Achievement Award when we spoke to her over the phone earlier. But later she objected."

Apparently, she felt a Lifetime Achievement Award was for those who were much older and had retired from the film industry.

According to Patil, Rekha felt that accepting this award will send the wrong signals to her well-wishers and fans. "We respect Rekhaji and her contribution to the film industry. Hence, we decided to give her the Raj Kapoor Creativity Award," added Patil.

However, Ajay Ambekar, state cultural secretary, said, "There is neither any misunderstanding between Rekhaji and the state government nor is she angry with us."

He added that the state government has decided to give two awards in the name of Raj Kapoor one is the Creativity Award and the second is the Special Contribution Award. Ambekar said that the committee has selected Aamir Khan for the Special Contribution Award.u00a0

Meanwhile, Ajay Sarpotdar, president of Akhil Bharatiya Marathi Chitrapat Mahamandal, an apex industry body, reasoned, "Rekha actually qualifies for the Lifetime Achievement Award, in view of her seniority and age."
