Paresh Bhatia was arrested last year in the IPL scam but later released; when cops raided an apartment in November, he fled and has been on the run since
Bookie Paresh Bhatia was arrested by Crime Branch officers from Kandivli around 9 pm yesterday.
Bhatia has been on the run since November 2013 when officials from Unit XI had raided an apartment in Malad (West). Four bookies were arrested from the flat in Vardhaman Apartments for placing bets on an India-West Indies match. Bhatia was also there but managed to escape the police. He has been on the run ever since.
Bhatia was allegedly a part of the IPL spot-fixing scandal that broke out last year and was arrested by Mumbai cops from Goa in June. He was later let out on bail. He will be produced before court tomorrow where cops will seek his custody for further investigations.
>> Bhatia was allegedly the link between actor Vindu Dara Singh and bookmaker Ramesh Vyas, who were both arrested in the IPL T20 spot-fixing scam last year.
>> Bhatia was the one responsible for collecting deposited money from a particular bank account and distributing it among bookies and punters.
>> Bhatia was also arrested in 2009 from Kandivli for allegedly placing bets on an India-Australia match.
