In a late night accident at Katraj tunnel on the Mumbai-Bangalore highway, two buses and one car was damaged in which the driver of the car sustained severe injuries. The driver has been shifted to Navale hospital for treatment.
Police officers from Haveli police station said that eyewitnesses told them that initially the car met with an accident.
"The four wheeler was probably hit by another vehicle from the back and lost control. It went swerving towards the road divider and crashed," they said.
When people rushed to help, they were scared to approach the car as the petrol tank was leaking and there were small sparks emerging from the engine.
"The front seats are completely damaged and there is barely anything left of the back as well. Though people could see the driver put his hand out and ask for help, there was some initial fear," said police officials.
A luxury bus driver slowed down his bus but a truck coming from behind the bus couldn't slow down in time and crashed into the bus.
No injuries were reported in the second accident.
