'Achhe din' slogan row: Congress demands PM Modi's apology

New Delhi: Asserting that the BJP-led NDA has failed on all fronts, Congress leader Sandeep Dikshit on Tuesday said it is high time that Prime Minister Narendra Modi apologises to the nation for backtracking on the 'achhe din' promise made during the Lok Sabha polls last year.

Dikshit said the ruling BJP ministers have now understood that 'achhe din' was a big illusion.

'Achhe din is something that this government and this Prime Minister will never be able to bring even in its most limited and remotest sense,' Dikshit told ANI here.

'It's very surprising. On one hand the Prime Minister everyday speaks of achhe din, spoke of achhe din and they advertised for achhe din, that was the slogan associated with that party. In fact, media congratulated them for a great campaign built on achhe din,' he added.

Dikshit said it's a government that is failing on all fronts and added that Union Steel and Mines Minister Narendra Singh Tomar had just expressed what was inside him.'I think he must have been confronted with a question or position of people's reaction. Therefore, in frustration, commented on the reality of the fact that we never said 'achhe din',' said Dikshit.

'I think he realizes it much more than others. I think it's high time that the BJP and the Prime Minister apologize to this nation that they fooled the nation by giving this slogan and this is something that they will never be able to achieve,' he added.

Union Minister for Steel and mines Narendra Singh Tomar had yesterday said the 'achhe din' slogan was coined by the people on social media during the 2014 Lok Sabha elections.
