A day after an FIR was lodged against Assistant Commissioner of Police Anil Mahabole, accusing him of raping a lady inspector in Kurla, Home Minister RR Patil announced the suspension of the officer.
The suspension comes shortly after an internal probe by the Crime Branch found Mahabole’s involvement in the crime. A female inspector had complained to senior officers that Mahabole had been raping her for the past eight months.

She stated in her complaint that Mahabole had visited her residence and offered her sweets that were spiked and while she was unconcious Mahabole had made an MMS of her in a compromising situation. He then began to blackmail her and continued to force himself on her during that period. Unable to bear the torture, the woman decided to lodge a complaint with senior police officials.
Ironically, Mahabole was earlier posted as an ACP in Azad Maidan division and the FIR has been lodged in Azad Maidan police station. Mahabole was earlier questioned in connection with senior journalist J Dey’s murder case last year. Mahabole is also facing an inquiry for his alleged links with the underworld. Mahabole was not available for comment but sources revealed that he has approached the sessions court seeking anticipatory bail. u00a0
