Jail authorities have decided that women who book their visit well in advance will be allowed to meet their brothers in prison this Raksha Bandhan
This isn’t an advertisement of any upcoming movie, but the latest rule set by the authorities of Tihar jail. The administration of Asia’s largest prison has decided that this Raksha Bandhan, if you want to tie a rakhi to your brother lodged at Tihar jail, you need to book the visit well in advance.
Authorities say that the move has been initiated because thousands of people swarm Tihar jail on the auspicious day, most of them unwanted, thereby over-crowding the prison.

“Nearly 16,000 to 17,000 women visitors are recorded every Raksha Bandhan in Tihar. Out of them, most of the visitors just accompany the genuine relative. With this rule, we’ll be able to regulate the number of visitors. Those who do not make advance bookings will not be entertained on that day,” said, Sunil Gupta, spokesperson of Tihar jail.
Authorities have also banned relatives from taking rakhis and sweets inside the jail. They claim that often relatives were found carrying tobacco, cash and other banned items for the inmates.
Nearly, 10,000 inmates are lodged in Tihar jail. Among the inmates are several VIPs who are currently residing in various cells of Tihar jail.u00a0
