BJP's new campaign will promote its prime ministerial candidate LK Advani among students across the country
With the Congress waving the youth flag under the leadership of its general secretary Rahul Gandhi, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) too has joined the bandwagon. The saffron party is planing to campaign at colleges to woo young voters for the upcoming General Elections.
The party has launched an innovative programme called

" that aims to reach out to students in around 5,000 campuses across the country, including the Delhi University, Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) and all the management and engineering colleges of the Capital. During the drive, young campaigners will discuss important national issues and Advani's plans for the Indian youth with students.
But this programme is not the only effort on part of the party to draw in young voters. Advani had also launched an online poll initiative that is garnering a lot of interest among youngsters. Portrayed by the party as India's largest political portal, the BJP says its website attracts about half-a-million visitors every month.
"Around 100 volunteers, shortlisted from over 6,500 who have registered on Advani's website, are participating in the campaign. It is designed as a grassroot-level drive that seeks to contact and mobilise young voters in thousands of colleges across the country," said the Delhi coordinator of the Advani @Campus programme, Swadesh Singh.
"The combination of his website and the Advani@Campus programme promises rich results. Our main motive is to spread Advani's vision for young India, as part of his agenda for good governance, development and security," he said.
The college campaign is the brainchild of Pradyut Bora, an IIM-A graduate. While praising the senior BJP leader, Bora said, "He can guide the youth to new heights and will provide strong leadership to the country."
BJP leader Arun Shourie launched the campaign at JNU on Friday. While pitching for Advani as the next leader of the country, Shourie highlighted the shortcomings of the present Congress-led UPA government.
