After slitting the throat of his stepson Rohan Zodge, Assistant Commissioner of Police (special protection unit) Shivaji Naravne left his Tilak Nagar residence and headed straight for his office. An anxious Naravne sent a constable from his branch to his Tilak Nagar house to check on the status of the situation on Friday morning.
According to sources, Naravne told the constable that he had a tiff with his stepson and he was worried that Zodge may throw a fit at home. He did not inform the constable about themurder.
“Soon after Naravne’s wife was arrested and confessed to the murder, Naravne panicked. He sent the constable to the scene of crime to find out if his name cropped up during investigations,” said an officer.
Initially, the cops had picked up the deceased’s mother and she subsequently told the investigators that she had killed her son in a fit of rage. However, during the interrogation she broke down and confessed that her husband was also involved in the crime.
Naravne had sent a constable around 9 am on Friday morning to check whether there cops had arrived at his Tilak Nagar residence.
However, the constable reported back saying that there was nothing as the police control room was informed only after 10 am,” added the official.
It is believed that Naravne has been suspended from the police force after his arrest. “As per the rulebook, the investigating officer has to send a report to the additional commissioner of police of the concerned branch and later it is in the control of the additional commissioner to issue a suspension of the accused,” said a source.
When contacted DIG KL Prasad (special protection unit) said, “The two accused, ACP Naravne and his wife Nanda murdered Rohan Zodge after he lost consciousness as they had forced him to consume alcohol. The ACP had asked his wife Nanda to send her daughter to a relative’s place in Ghatkopar. The deceased sexually harassed both the mother and the daughter after getting drunk. Therefore, the duo hatched a plan to kill their son in the wee hours on Friday.”
