The Sahakarnagar police registered a case against six suspects including Deepak alias Baba Misal, ex-corporator and brother-in-law of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA Madhuri Misal, on the charge of assaulting a Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) worker with sharp weapons following a brawl over parking with a gas agency owner.

The injured, Anna alias Rajendra Dnyaneshwar Deshmukh (48), is an NCP worker in Shukrawar Peth and Kasba Peth area. He has been admitted to a private hospital and is undergoing treatment. Deshmukh’s son Kaustubh (20) has lodged the complaint against Misal and six others.

A police official said, “Shah was arrested on Tuesday night and Deepak Misal will be taken into custody soon.”

According to Deshmukh’s complaint, on Monday night, he had gone to a hotel on Satara Road for dinner with his friends. While he was returning home around 10.30 pm, two men on a motorcycle came near him and stopped his bike. Close on their heels, five to six bike-borne persons came and attacked him with a sickle. While the suspects were beating up Deshmukh his friends ran away from the spot.

Some 15 days before the alleged assault incident, Deshmukh had had a brawl with a gas agency owner, Parag Shah, from Shukrawar Peth.

Deshmukh, who is a kabaddi trainer, had objected to the vehicles parked by Shah in the open ground in Natubaug area of Shukrawar Peth. After the fracas,Shah contacted Misal, who allegedly threatened to kill Deshmukh. Citing the previous enmity, Deshmukh has accused Misal in his complaint.u00a0
