Al-Barkaat confident ahead of Giles Shield final
AL-BARKAAT MMI (Kurla), who pushed former champions Rizvi Springfield (Bandra) out of Mumbai Schools Sports Association (MSSA)-Mumbai Indians Giles Shield Elite Division in the semi-final stage, look to come good against defending champions IES VN Sule Guruji (Dadar) in the four-day final that gets underway at the Brabourne Stadium today.
It is a big day for us. We have fought against all odds to reach the final. We have played under immense pressure. Don Bosco lodged an official complaint against us claiming that five of our players were overage. Later, we came out clean. Winning the title will be an icing on the cake," said Al-Barkaat captain Shoeb Khan.
Sule Guruji has been doing well for the last few years. They have experienced players who are in the Mumbai U-14 side. But beating Rizvi in the semi-final has been a morale booster for us. We hope to repeat the same in the final too," said Al-Barkaat coach Nafees Khan.
Though Al-Barkaat is a relatively new side, Sule Guruji aren't overconfident going into the final.
We haven't seen much of Al-Barkaat. But we cannot afford to take them lightly as they have beaten a team like Rizvi. It is the final and I would want my boys to play their best cricket,"said Sule Guruji coach, Gopal Koli.
