Al-Qaeda's 9/11 Message: We're About To Win

Terror outfit's new chief Ayman al-Zawahiri releases a video applauding the Arab Spring uprisings and hailing the 9/11 attacks

Al-Qaeda's leader has released a message to mark the tenth anniversary of the 9/11 attacks. The hour-long message, entitled The Dawn Of Imminent Victory, was recorded by Ayman al-Zawahiri, who succeeded Osama bin Laden after he was killed in May.

Rallying call: Ayman al-Zawahiri hopes the 'Arab Spring' protests would
establish what he called true Islam

The video, posted online, also contained a recording of bin Laden in which he tells Americans to avoid "falling as slaves" to the control of major companies.

The Site service, which monitors jihadist messages, said al-Zawahiri offers his support for the recent revolutions in the Egypt, Libya and Tunisia. In the recording he calls for them to "establish true Islam and Sharia-based governance".

According to Site, al-Zawahiri claims the Arab spring are a "form of defeat" for the US. SITE said, 'Zawahiri ... declared that contrary to what is reported in the media, al-Qaeda supports the revolutions and hopes it will establish true Islam and sharia-based governance.

The popular revolutions, he stated, are a form of defeat for the United States, just as the 9/11 attacks and its alleged lack of success in Afghanistan and Iraq were also defeats.'

The US was on high alert over the weekend for the anniversary of the attacks in 2001 which killed 3,000 people after security officials revealed that there was a 'credible' terrorist threat on Washington or New York.

Al-Zawahiri has led
al-Qaeda since Bin Laden was shot dead after a decade on the run during a raid by United States Navy SEALs on his Abbottabad hideout in May. A string of senior leaders have been killed or captured since then, leading Leon Panetta, new US defence secretary, to predict defeat of the network was within reach.
