MINUTES after being arrested around 12.30 am on Monday night, alleged tax evader and money launderer Hasan Ali Khan was rushed to the St George Hospital after complaining of acute weakness and inability to pass urine.

The doctors measured Ali's blood pressure, which was higher than normal approximately 170/110. Ali then informed the doctor that he is a diabetic and hypertensive, because of which the doctors tested his sugar levels along with a routine ElectroCardioGram(ECG).

The ECG test was normal but the sugar test confirmed that Ali was a diabetic. "Ali informed us that he has been a diabetic since 15 years," said a doctor who examined him at St George hospital.

Sources at the hospital said that Ali had missed a dose of medication on Monday when he was being interrogated, because of which his blood pressure had shot up. Doctors at St George hospital gave him a dose of medication to control it and then released him.

At 6:30 am, however, Ali returned to the hospital with complaints of giddiness and weakness. Doctors then referred him to JJ Hospital for an expert opinion.

At JJ

When Ali reached JJ hospital around 10:00 am, doctors in the emergency ward examined him and found that his blood pressure was still slightly high.

"The high blood pressure was not alarming as Ali had a history of hypertension and he was undergoing stress because of his arrest," said a doctor who examined him at JJ.

Since Ali is a diabetic, his kidneys are weak and thus doctors felt the need to perform a sonography and serum creatin test to detect any anomalies. After performing a routine ECG, followed by a serum creatin, Ali was taken to the X-Ray department.

A three-member team of doctors from the surgery, nephrology and cardiology departments examined Ali and checked his test results. The doctors deemed him fit and prescribed him medication for diabetes and hypertension only.

"Our doctors examined him and he is completely fine after a clinical examination. We have taken all the experts' opinions," said Dr T P Lahane, dean, JJ Hospital.

Most doctors pointed out that people in custody usually try to fake ailments to evade being locked up.
