As Mumbai's big names come to town with their collections expect B-Town to glam up the show

Fashion in Pune has just got bigger. The city is all set to get its 'fashion capital' status, as the Pune Fashion Week takes off today.

But the question that's weighing on most minds is that will the Bollywood brigade walk the ramp during Pune's big date with fashion? With the big names from Mumbai showing their collection in the city, can one expect to see the glam brigade set the ramp on fire?

Designer Vikram Phadnis said, "I may or may not a have a Bollywood celeb walking the ramp for me." He added, "Actually I haven't decided, because I'm very busy putting my collection together."

Shaina NC was quite categorical when she said, "No. But I'll have a really cool Pune woman achiever walking the ramp." She went on to say, "There'll be lots of beautiful nets, georgettes and lovely sarees. It will be very Indian from fabrics to silhouettes to drapes."

Another Mumbai designer Niksha Lulla, wanting to keep the suspense, was quick to add, "There will be a showstopper, but I do not want to reveal that right now."

Asked about her collection at the Fashion week, she said, "It's a totally new collection, very Bohemian, young girlie and easy-to-wear."

Fashionistas in the city have been on their toes too. Pooja Chopra, Femina Miss India 2009, said, "I have been very busy with the Pune Fashion Week."

Smart venue
The Westin, Pune's latest 5-star property makes a perfect venue for a fashion week.

Designer Shaina N C said, "Pune is great as a venue and I think it should go well."

Phadnis added, "I am so happy that the Fashion week is in Pune. I love Pune, it has a great crowd, and I'm
really looking forward to showcasing my collection here."

Young crowd
Niksha said, "My expectations of Pune are high as there's a young crowd here, with the huge student community. Since I'm a young designer I think I should be able to connect with the crowd."u00a0

"This move will not only aspire to give city designers a platform to exhibit and showcase their creativity and make people aware of the fashion world, but also identify probable buyers and help them see the intricacies of what they intend to buy," said Satyajit Joglekar of N'igma Production House.
