The occupants of this Ambassador should have opted for the non-smoking section. A short circuit may have caused the fire that engulfed the car in Delhi Lieutenant Governor Tejender Khanna's fleet, experts said.

The four occupants of the car escaped unhurt as they got out soon after noticing smoke emanating from the bonnet.

Auto expert HB Mathur told MiD DAY that ill maintenance of the electronic circuitry may have caused the fire. The petrol driven ambassador car bearing registration number DL 3C DM1131 was bought last year in May.

" I saw smoke coming out of the bonnet. I informed the driver and we got out of the car. Immediately, flames emerged and engulfed the whole car. It was gutted within minutes. The LG did not stop as it was the last vehicle of the convoy," said a security personnel.
