Last week, late Bollywood actor Amjad Khan was remembered for his Gabbar Singh role in Sholay whose 40-year anniversary was celebrated in the film industry. Yesterday, Amjad Khan’s son Seemab Khan came up with a match-winning performance for Dadar Union Sporting Club against Shivaji Park Youngsters (SPY) in a ‘B’ division Dr HD Kanga League match at Mahul.

Leg-spinner Seemab (33) claimed five wickets for 25 runs against SPY, who were bowled for 75. In response, Dadar Union scored 77 for nine. In the second innings, SPY scored 34 for three.

“I really enjoyed the challenge of bowling in tough conditions. I was aiming to help my team end up with an outright win, but that was not to be. Playing in the ‘B’ division is tougher as compared to ‘C’ division. The SPY batsmen were difficult to unsettle,” said Seemab, who has now decided to concentrate fully on cricket and lose weight.

“I’ve lost 12 kilos in the last seven weeks thanks to my cricket training. My dream to play for Mumbai is very much alive,” he added. The highlight of his cricket career so far is leading Rizvi to victory in the inter-collegiate competition in 2000.

Coach Dahad delighted
“Seemab bowled very aggressively. He was quick through the air and extracted a good amount of turn on a wet pitch. It was an impressive performance,” said Dadar Union’s coach and former Mumbai Ranji pacer Sandeep Dahad. “He is a very serious cricketer and determined to do well in the ‘B’ division after claiming 30 wickets for Maskati CC in last year’s Kanga League in which he had two successive seven-wicket hauls (vs Gaud Saraswat and Young Friends CC) in the ‘C’ division,” Dahad added.

About Sholay’s 40th anniversary, Seemab said: “It’s a very good coincidence that I helped my side to win on the day after Sholay’s 40th anniversary. I’m very happy.”
