Indian cricket's domestic giant Amol Muzumdar is not convinced with the recommendation to play Ranji Trophy matches at neutral venues.

"It's a makeshift solution," Muzumdar told mid-day. "Ultimately, they (the BCCI) will fall back on the home and away system. There will be no problem on this score if match referees submit honest reports irrespective of whether the host venue is a powerful centre or not. We can have harsher punishments if the pitch is not up to standards," he added.

Muzumdar is also in favour of abolishing the toss, a point which was also reportedly discussed in yesterday's Technical Committee meeting. "To take away the home advantage, let the visiting team decide on batting or fielding," said Muzumdar. Mumbai's Ranji Trophy-winning coach Chandrakant Pandit said: "The attendance at Ranji Trophy matches is anyway dwindling and if there is no home team playing, why would spectators come to the ground."
