Andheri shootout: Shooter nabbed, victim recuperating

The 34-year-old who was wanted for shooting at his neighbour in Andheri was arrested on Tuesday. The accused Amjad Ismail Mujawar, opened fire at Vithoba Ramchandra Sutrave, a local Shiv Sena leader on Friday night.

Mujawar, a well-known criminal was nabbed from Solapur, after his family gave the police information about his hideout. Right after the incident, Mujawar fled to his Gahtkopar home and when the police reached there, he fled and caught an OLA cab to reach Solapur.

Two separate teams of Andheri Police and Crime Branch Unit 10 that were formed to nab him tracked the direction, which the driver took to reach Mujawar’s hideout. He was arrested from there.

“We have recovered a country-made pistol and five live cartridges from Amjad’s possession. Section 307 (Attempt to Murder), 24 in Arms act (Seizure and detention under orders of the Central Government) and other relevant sections of IPC have been levied against him,” police said.

While Survate is recuperating in a hospital currently, Mujawar has been remanded to police custody till May 30.

Old rivalry
Bad blood between Mujawar and Survate dates back to 2014, when both of them were the committee members of Triveni Sangam Co-operative Housing Society SRA building. Survate was the chairman of the panel and due to some differences Mujawar was expelled from his membership, which became the main reason for revenge. On Friday (the day of the incident), he asked Survate for money which he refused to give. That is when Mujawar fired at Survate.
