In space-starved Mumbai, Andheri's Bombay Cocktail Bar (BCB) comes as a relief. The 4,500 sq ft space that opened doors recently, and although theatrical, is done up tastefully.

We headed there to try their specialty — the cocktails. Created by mixologist Mukesh Khatri of Cocktails and Dreams, the signature concoctions at BCB manage to hit the spot. We picked the five we liked most.

Get high on chai
The name Masala Chai Cocktail might be a bit of a misnomer for this drink, because it's more of a lemon-flavoured iced tea with a twist. However, that doesn't make it any less interesting. A whisky-based cocktail, this one combines lemon tea syrup, jasmine syrup and kaffir lime leaves with a fragrant allspice syrup, which is concocted in-house.
Cost Rs 396

Enjoy a spicy kick
There is only one word to describe All Night Long: potent. The drink brings together whisky, dark coffee and Red Bull, a combination that is bound to fill you with restless energy through the night. The cocktail is smoked with star anise and cinnamon, giving it an aromatic, spicy kick.
Cost Rs 567

Give the gola a pass
As far as dramatic cocktails go, The Tipsy Kalakhatta sits at the top of the list, right behind All Night Long. The drink is a take on the ubiquitous kala khatta gola found along the city's beaches. It combines vodka, kala khatta syrup, cumin cocktail spice, lime juice, orange juice, and crushed mint leaves, all shaken and poured into a squat glass.

The drama comes in form of a jar filled with smoked and citrus-flavoured dry ice, placed next to the drink, which imparts it with lemony notes.
Cost Rs 396

Glow with turmeric
Move over turmeric latte, it's time for the turmeric cocktails. We find the Turmeric Glow Lemonade most fascinating for its smart use of the spice in a cocktail. The gin is infused with raw turmeric for a week. Ginger juice, made in-house, goes into the mix, along with orange juice and lime juice. The mixologist uses tonic water to diffuse the powerful notes of ginger, and finishes the drink with tart-yet-sweet grenadine syrup. The turmeric pairs beautifully with ginger, and the grenadine adds a hint of sweetness.
Cost Rs 396

Rediscover coconut
Coquito is a coconut-based alcoholic beverage traditionally served during Christmas in Puerto Rico. Here, the drink gets a makeover. White and coconut rum, and chocolate cookie syrup are shaken with ice and poured into a flute. Its rim is crusted with raspberry puree and coconut dust. The drink is finished with cream of hazelnut.
Cost R396
