Yesterday, the duo took their seats at the Eden Gardens’ president's box at 10:15am. They later moved on to the clubhouse gallery from where they watched the entire first day’s play.
According to one of the spectators sitting in the vicinity, Anjali was hoping that Sachin would get a bowl and possibly even take a wicket before tea.
“It would be great if (skipper MS) Dhoni gives the ball to him now,” Anjali exclaimed to Arjun, sitting at the clubhouse lower tier, reported IANS. Moments later, India skipper MS Dhoni asked Tendulkar to bowl, and the batting maestro got a crucial breakthrough to send back WI’s Shane Shillingford.
Meanwhile, Arjun appeared fascinated by the atmosphere at the Eden Gardens on his maiden trip here. While spectators indulged in the Mexican Wave, he remained seated but kept banging his empty soft drink bottle on his seat in keeping with the rhythm.
At the end of the day, Anjali and Arjun went near the dressing room area, where they met Sachin. The batting legend later told this correspondent that he was indeed surprised to them there.
Mother and son later visited a nearby lounge where some Tendulkar pictures were on display. Arjun was quick to point to a picture of the Tendulkar family during the 2006 tour to Pakistan.
